Surfboard shapes built around how you want to surf.

Five proven starting points cover fast fish lines, versatile eggs, classic longboarding and compact twin-fin surfing. Choose a shape to understand it, then use the board brief to work through the details with James.

The Whitburn Shapes

Each shape has a clear character. The finished board can still change in size, finish and fin setup after James understands where you surf and what you want the board to do.

Compare the range

A compact way to choose a starting point. The detail still gets worked through with James after the brief.

Useful when

Paddle power, speed generation, small to medium surf, gutless or mushy conditions, and surfers who want to get more out of less wave.

Fin set-up

Twin or quad. Twin keeps it loose and flowing with a longer, drawn-out feel through turns. Quad adds drive and hold, particularly useful when the wave has a bit more push behind it.

Start a board brief to build from

Choose a Whitburn shape, describe a board you already have in mind or ask James to guide the direction. The brief gathers enough information for a useful first conversation. It does not produce a final design or price.

Step 1 of 4

Start with the board in your head.

A rough direction is enough. James will work through the specification after reading the brief.

How clear is the board idea?

Shaping philosophy

The shape is only the start. James works from how you surf, where you surf, and what the board needs to do under your feet. The useful details become outline, foam, rails, bottom shape and finish.
