James started Whitburn Studio to make useful things by hand. Surfboards are shaped to order, fins and objects use workshop material where possible, and repairs keep boards and composite equipment in use.
The workshop is just north of Winchester. It is where custom surfboards are shaped, damaged boards are repaired, Hold fins are made, and leftover board-building material is put into furniture and smaller studio pieces.
Built around the brief.
Custom boards are built with the material that suits the brief. PU, EPS, balsa and agave can all make sense depending on the board. Plant-based Bio-Science epoxy is used across the board.
Repair, reuse and material discipline sit beside the shaping.
Foam offcuts are returned for recycling where possible. Suitable fibreglass and resin move into fins, furniture and small objects. Repair work keeps existing equipment in use.
